Today, Google Cloud announced the release of Healthcare Data Engine, a new solution for healthcare and life sciences organizations that enables near real-time integration and harmonization of patient data from multiple sources, including medical records, claims, clinical trials, and research data. The goal: to dramatically simplify and accelerate the path to interoperability and advanced analytics in a secure, scalable cloud environment. Healthcare Data Engine leverages Google Cloud’s native understanding of healthcare data types to construct longitudinal records from disparate source systems in a fully-managed environment with predictable pricing.

As a Healthcare Data Engine launch partner, SADA is ready to help our healthcare and life sciences customers leverage this solution to power the holistic insights they need for better real-time decisions related to:

  • Resource utilization
  • Optimizing clinical trials
  • Accelerating research
  • Identifying high-risk patients
  • Reducing physician burn out
  • And other critical needs

Healthcare and life sciences organizations know there’s incredible value hidden within their data. Our goal is to help them unlock it, but too often, they’re kept from realizing that vision due to the difficulty of integrating disparate data sources in the first place. Healthcare Data Engine is a modern, cloud-native solution to this problem — a major step forward in standards-based data harmonization, integration, and analytics on the public cloud.

For example: Healthcare Data Engine can map over 90% of HL7v2 messages to FHIR across leading EHRs out-of-the-box. Data can then be streamed in near real-time to Google BigQuery for reporting, advanced analytics, and machine learning. By bringing the power of BigQuery’s analytics and AI to the healthcare industry, Healthcare Data Engine gives organizations the ability to analyze their data — whether gigabytes or petabytes — to optimize hospital operations, drive research and discovery, and improve the lives of their patients.

Data interoperability improves health outcomes

Further, the “engine” of Healthcare Data Engine is a suite of fully FHIR-compliant APIs, which can help healthcare organizations achieve compliance with interoperability regulations. Even more importantly, easier access to complete patient records improves patient care.

“As we are keenly aware stemming from the pandemic, access to the right information at the right time is critical to save lives,” said Dr. Joe Corkery, Director of Product Management, Google Cloud. “We built the Healthcare Data Engine to make it easier for healthcare and life sciences organizations to bring together their data silos to innovate and improve health outcomes.”
